Side Sill Carbon Wrapping - Honda S2000 AP1/AP1.5/AP2

Today, I want to discuss a simple way to enhance your car's appearance, specifically focusing on the side sill. This part, typically painted in the base colour, can be surprisingly noticeable when viewed from the side. In my opinion, this applies to the Copen, too, although the image below features an S2000.

To improve its look, we can start by blacking out the area under the sill that is painted in the base colour. This will help it blend into the shadows beneath the body, making it less noticeable.

For this task, I recommend using an undersealant for the paint, but caution against using sticky brands. My preference is to use Dinitrol spray paint.

Next, let's add a stone chip protection measure by wrapping the side sill. You can use Paint Protection Film (PPF) or any material you prefer.

In our demo car, we've equipped it with carbon fibre side strakes, so we opted for 3M carbon fibre-patterned wrapping.

As mentioned earlier, since some areas are painted with DINITROL, it is essential to avoid applying wrapping film to surfaces that have already been treated with DINITROL.

To ensure a neat application, clearly define the boundaries with masking tape and make sure that the surface where you will apply the wrapping film is completely clean.

You can decide how far to apply the film based on your preference; in our demo car, we've aligned it with the height of the front edge of the strake panel.

Using knifeless tape will provide a clean, straight cut.

Just like that, we were able to easily change the look of the side sill. Looks sharper, doesn’t it?

After this, we installed AMIS carbon side steps, which complement the CSOhara strakes beautifully. I’ll write more about that in a future blog post.

Stay tuned!
