Import vehicle preparation report - 2020 Toyota Copen GR Sport LA400A Red (Part 8)
The vehicle registration for the 2020 Toyota Copen GR Sport LA400A (red), which passed the IVA test on February 5th, is now complete. Wait, it's March 16th today, what have you been up to for over a month? Well, I was actually on a two-week business trip to Japan. Normally, after sending the V55 form, the V5C form arrives in about 3-4 weeks.
Today, let's review the V55 form. This will be helpful for those who want to register their JDM vehicle themselves.
Once your vehicle arrives in the UK, the first thing you need to do is take the MOT test. Since the vehicle hasn't been registered yet, it naturally won't have a license plate number.
Some MOT centres can be difficult to reach, so I recommend choosing one with experience conducting initial MOT tests for JDM vehicles.
For vehicles under 10 years old since their initial registration in Japan, taking the IVA test is also mandatory. Please refer to previous blog posts for information on the IVA test.
Once you receive your MOT certificate, prepare the V55 form. You can download the form from the DVLA website. Referring to the V55 form guidance makes the process smoother.
At this time, you must enclose the original export certificate issued by the Japanese government, the MOT certificate of conformity, and proof of identity (for vehicles under 10 years old, the original IVA certificate is also required).
Finally, enclose a check to pay the road tax and administrative fees and mail it. It is recommended to send it by mail with tracking and proof of receipt.
After mailing, you will not receive any confirmation of receipt from the DVLA. This can be very worrying, but that's the reality. If there are any deficiencies in the documents, the original documents will be returned along with instructions; if all goes well, the V5C will be mailed to you.
Although it took some time, the process of obtaining the logbook was completed without any omissions or problems.
Now, it's time to hurry up and prepare for sale!
We also offer import services for JDM vehicles other than the Copen to the UK. We specialise in providing meticulous service tailored to your budget. If you have a budget in mind, please contact us using this form.
