Import vehicle preparation report - Toyota Copen LA400A GR Sport 2020 Red (Part 3)

The inspection work on the 2020 Toyota Copen GR Sport LA400A (Red) is complete, and the evaluation results against IVA standards have been received. Today, I'd like to briefly explain the IVA standard items.

In the UK, if an imported car is under 10 years old, it cannot be registered unless it passes the IVA test. While many items are inspected at the inspection station for kit cars, the Copen is a mass-produced car, so most items can be omitted by submitting the necessary documents.

Conversely, if a modified car is imported, there is a high possibility of failing the IVA test, so when importing a vehicle under 10 years old, the work and cost of returning it to its original specifications must be considered.

So, what inspection items require attention even for mass-produced cars with standard specifications? These mainly concern items related to the E-mark display and identification mark design.

Even for vehicles like the Copen, which are not intended for export to the UK or Europe, E-marked parts are increasingly being used. Therefore, as long as these parts haven't been replaced with aftermarket parts, there should be no problems in most cases.

Specifically, this includes tyres, windshields, rear fog light lenses, and rear fog light switches.

Regarding rear fog lights, you also need to pay attention to the standards for mounting position and wiring.

For details, please refer to the manual available on the DVSA website.

This vehicle had a good condition original windshield, and we were able to confirm the E-mark.

Regarding tyres for the Japanese market, many do not have the E-mark, so caution is necessary. This time, we replaced them with new Yokohama Advan A50. The A50 is a tyre specifically for the Copen. We also confirmed the E-mark on these.

For added precaution, we ordered and installed UK-made rear fog light units and telltale switches.
