In vehicles equipped with a KF engine, such as the LA400 Copen, the upper radiator hose is very short and bent at a right angle, so if a water temperature sensor adapter is added as per theory, there will not be enough space to absorb vibrations of the engine, which will put strain on the adapter and cause a coolant leak.
When measuring water temperature with the upper hose, no hot water circulated through the hose until the thermostat opened, so the water temperature gauge did not work correctly. Noticing that the radiator upper hose is shorter than in previous models, but the heater hose is more extended, this adaptor is designed to fit the heater hose.
Since there is no strain on the part where the adapter has been added, coolant leaks from the connection point are prevented.
And because the heater hose circuit is a bypass, it can accurately measure water temperature regardless of whether the thermostat is open or closed.
The adapter is made from a single piece of machined aluminum and is clear anodized for outstanding durability.
A water temperture sensor supplied by Defi is supposed to be fitted this adaptor. Taking into account the impact on the coolant passage, the sensor measuring part protrudes by approximately 3mm.
